Panel upgrades

Panel upgrades that get your home ready for everything.

Upgrade from 100A to 200A or 400A service. Replace old fuse boxes, dangerous Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels, and add capacity for EV chargers, generators, and smart home systems.

What we do

Specifically, here's what we handle.

Your panel is the heart of your home's electrical system. If it's outdated, undersized, or unsafe, nothing else works right.

100A to 200A service upgrades

The most common upgrade we do. Adds capacity for modern appliances, EV chargers, central AC, and smart home systems. Includes new meter base and service drop coordination with DTE.

400A and larger services

For larger homes, multi-family properties, and homes with significant EV charging or solar/battery systems.

Federal Pacific & Zinsco replacement

These panels are notorious fire hazards. If you have one, replace it. Insurance companies are increasingly refusing to cover homes with these panels.

Fuse box replacement

Replace old fuse boxes with modern circuit breaker panels. Required for most insurance, mortgage, and home sale inspections.

Sub-panels

Add a sub-panel for garages, workshops, basements, additions, ADUs, or to free up space in a crowded main panel.

Smart panels

Span, Lumin, and Leviton smart panels — per-circuit monitoring, app-based breaker control, EV/solar/battery integration.

Why Electracore

What sets us apart for this work.

DTE coordination handled for you

Panel upgrades require coordination with DTE for the service disconnect and reconnect. We schedule everything, file the paperwork, and handle the inspection — you just need to be home.

Permits and inspections, always

Every panel upgrade we do gets a permit and an inspection. This protects you legally and on resale. Companies that skip this step are doing you a disservice.

Power back on the same day

Most residential panel upgrades are completed in a single day. Power off in the morning, back on by evening, fully inspected within 24-48 hours.

Common questions

Things people ask us.

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade? +

Common signs: breakers trip frequently, lights dim when appliances start, you can't add new circuits because the panel is full, you have a fuse box, your panel is a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok or Zinsco, or you're planning to add an EV charger / hot tub / addition / central AC.

How long does a panel upgrade take? +

Typical 100A-to-200A residential upgrade: 6-8 hours of on-site work, done in one day. Power is off for most of the day. Larger or more complex jobs (400A, exterior meter relocations) can take 2 days.

Will I lose power for the whole job? +

Yes, power has to be off while we work on the panel — usually 4-6 hours. We schedule the start time for whenever works for you, and we coordinate with DTE so they're ready to reconnect when we're done.

Do panel upgrades require a permit and inspection? +

Yes, always. Any reputable electrician will pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the job. If someone offers to do a panel for cash without a permit, walk away — you're inheriting their liability.

Is my Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel really that dangerous? +

Yes. These panels have well-documented failure rates where breakers don't trip during overloads, leading to fires. Most insurance companies now require replacement. If you have one, prioritize this upgrade.
